Trauma
You wonder why you struggle with deep feelings of inadequacy, self-loathing, and shame. You’ve been through challenging experiences, but you tell yourself they weren’t “that bad” or that others have it worse. A part of you says you should be “over it” by now, leaving you feeling depressed and ashamed.
You are constantly on edge and distrusting of yourself and others. You often feel disconnected from your body and from the world, like life is pulling you along without your consent. You feel fearful, anxious, isolated, and numb. You may experience flashbacks to upsetting moments that are unwanted and feel overwhelming. The world doesn’t seem safe, and you feel alone, like no one else could possibly understand what you’re going through.
Imagine you could talk through these experiences in a safe environment free of judgment. Through IFS therapy, I can help you to take back power over your traumatic experiences so you can feel more connected to yourself and your body again. Whether you have experienced complex relational/childhood trauma, sexual abuse or assault, emotional abuse, or a single traumatic event, we will work together to heal your traumatized parts so that you can fully live in the present again without the burdens of your past impacting your daily life. Healing and relief is possible, and I welcome all of your parts with openness and compassion.
Attachment
You want to understand why you keep repeating the same patterns in your romantic relationships that leave you feeling unfulfilled and hurt. You notice a disconnect between how you want to show up in relationships and how you feel when you get close to someone.
You struggle with fear of rejection, fear of intimacy, lack of trust, or setting boundaries. You want to understand where your attachment patterns come from so you can heal and experience deeper emotional connection to others. You might be familiar with attachment theory and want to understand where you fall on the spectrum of anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment.
IFS is wonderfully compatible with attachment theory, and through this lens, we’ll explore the anxious, avoidant, or disorganized parts of you. By understanding the good intentions of these parts, we’ll get to the root of your attachment wounds and help to unburden traumatized parts that feel stuck in the past, helping you to feel more present, trusting, and confident in your relationship with yourself and with others.
Anxiety
It feels like there are always a million thoughts going through your head, and making sense of them seems impossible and overwhelming. Your chest feels heavy and your shoulders are tense. Your anxious part tells you there’s always something you need to be doing or worrying about, so you keep going, burning the candle at both ends.
You struggle to rest or relax without feeling guilty, worrying that if you slow down and take more time for yourself, you’ll become lazy or complacent. So you stop only when you collapse with exhaustion, numbing out to get temporary relief from the anxiety. Another part of you feels frustrated by this cycle, but you feel helpless to change it.
Imagine you could get lasting relief from this feeling and experience being in the moment, appreciating the joys of everyday life without constant worry and self-doubt. Through IFS, we’ll get to know your anxious part, understand its intentions and fears, and help it to shift into a more supportive and helpful role, resulting in increased ease, spaciousness, and calm in your mind and body.
life transitions
You might be navigating the transition into or out of college, coping with shifting romantic, peer, or family relationships, dealing with career uncertainties, or making sense of life in your 30s. Perhaps you are grieving the loss of relationships, important people in your life, or the way things used to be. You feel like a passive participant in your life, frustrated at the way things are turning out.
Overwhelmed and stuck, you’re experiencing decision-paralysis, perhaps because you’re not sure where you want to go or what’s important to you anymore. This period brings a multitude of unique challenges that can feel impossible to get in front of.
We’ll address these difficult transitions by exploring the impact on your emotional, social, and physical well-being, as well as by looking at larger systems that may be impacting you. We’ll help the internal parts of you that feel stuck to find a path forward so that you feel more in alignment with your true values and goals, leading to increased peace, trust, and confidence in your present life.
